I am an industrial engineer and amateur astronomer. I live in Mendoza, Argentina. Although I am a Spanish-speaking person I have built this blog mostly in English because the major reason that drove me to make and publish it was to put together some of my articles that were published for many years in the Rosette Gazette Newsletter (Rose City Astronomers, Portland Oregon USA). These articles were written in English, so I decided to make the blog in that language, including some articles and reports in Spanish (so...my apologies if you find some mistakes in the grammar!). You will be able to find some of the articles in this blog also published in the Viewing in the Southern Hemisphere section of the Rose City Astronomers web page. There is a translation tool above each article that is good enough to read and understand in your language.

This blog contains five main sections,

The "Deep-Sky Article" main page contains the mentioned articles plus some observing reports I made during my trips to the USA in the last few years. The archive of these articles is on the sidebar. On the other four pages, you will first find the "Astronomical Events Reports page" which holds reports and a few sketches I made of some of the astronomical phenomena I saw in the last years. So far, the author has written all the reports, but the idea is to add, shortly, reports and comments from some stargazing friends.

The 3rd Tab is "Artìculos y Reportes en Español". Here I have included articles and reports in Spanish with the idea of adding much more in the future.

The 4th Tab, named "Upcoming Sky Events", lists the major astronomical phenomena that will be visible for months to come. Just click on the astronomical event banner of your interest to get access to detailed and complete information, so you can plan your observing session if the event is visible from where you live.

The 5th and last section is the "Photo Gallery" page which shows pictures I have taken during my visits to observatories and institutions. I have also included photos of observing sites from where I have observed, observing nights with some observer partners, and some star parties I have attended.

Some deep-sky articles, written by the author, show this small logo (left). This means that it is an article about an observing project carried out using the 24-inch (0.6 meters) telescope now in the Southern Hemisphere to explore the marvelous southern skies deeper.

On the sidebar, you will find what I think is useful information when you want to plan your trip to a dark sky site to carry out your observations. Among others, you will find weather prospects, local and UT times, live images, remote-controlled telescopes, comets and asteroids ephemerides, upcoming eclipses, a coordinate converter, etc. All of them are useful tools to improve your observing projects.

Moreover, you can find an observing e-books section and a page with links to friends' very good websites.

I deeply hope this blog is useful for you and you can enjoy surfing it. I will be very glad to know if this blog inspires you to travel to the Southern Hemisphere to enjoy the wonders of the Austral night sky.

Clear and dark skies!

Regards,
Leo Cavagnaro

Cielos limpios y oscuros!

Un atento saludo,
Leo Cavagnaro
